Before the school year is over, I am hoping to do a Roald Dahl unit with my 6th graders. I have always loved the adventure in Dahl's books and want to share this with my students. Our classroom library is scant, and we don't currently have the resources for any novel studies. These kids love to read, but don't have access to books that challenge and inspire them. Having a class set of a few of these books would give our students the opportunity to learn the value of independent reading as well as utilize a variety of the skills they have practiced with our textbook selections. This is a pretty ambitious goal considering we're starting from scratch, but I think we can do it. The 2 books I want to focus on are Fantastic Mr. Fox and Matilda. We will need 40 copies of each book. To those of you that have asked me for ideas regarding things our classroom needs, listen up: Both of these books are available on Amazon, used, for as little as $0.01 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0142410373/ref=tmm_pap_used_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=used&qid=1362464203&sr=8-4 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0142410349/ref=sr_1_1_up_1_main_olp?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1362464405&sr=1-1&condition=used) Amazon does ship to Kosrae, but sometimes it might be more cost-effective to have it sent to your home, and then personally send the book in a flat rate box to Kosrae. If you plan to send a book, please email me (click the tiny envelope icon at the upper right corner of this page) and let me know so I can keep a running tally. Thanks in advance, and happy book-hunting!
